Senior Design Engineer, Stack Modules

Your mission
As a Senior Design Engineer at Elcogen, you will drive the development of a commercially competitive stack module product family that positions Elcogen as the trusted partner for SOFC and SOEC applications.
Your expertise in R&D, design, prototyping, and product management will be essential in advancing our stack module technology, supporting customer integration projects, and ensuring that our products deliver exceptional performance, reliability, and value.
Your tasks
Product Development & Design
  • Lead the development of Elcogen’s stack module product family from concept to industrialization.
  • Design and prototype stack modules, subsystems, and components.
  • Integrate Elcogen stacks into customer products and test systems.
  • Conduct tests on systems and subsystems to validate performance and reliability.
  • Maintain and update product and design data to ensure accuracy and traceability.
Collaboration & Project Support
  • Participate in and coordinate customer support projects and public R&D initiatives.
  • Select, contact, and supervise subcontracting partners to ensure quality and timelines.
  • Produce and manage design documentation, drawings, assembly instructions, user manuals, test plans, and test reports.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (R&D, Industrialization, Manufacturing, and Customer Support) to align designs with requirements and deliverables.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
  • Contribute to innovation and cost-competitiveness in stack module design.
  • Support process and product improvements across the lifecycle of Elcogen stack modules.
Your profile
Education
  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Experience
  • Proven experience with 3D design software and Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, practical problem-solving, and testing/measurement of key parameters (electrical properties, temperature, fluid pressure, flow rate).
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Willingness to travel in Europe and Asia for assembly and maintenance work at customer sites.
Beneficial Assets
  • Experience in fuel cell applications, SOFC/SOEC stack assemblies, and stack modules.
  • Knowledge of high-temperature metals (up to 800 °C), structures and sealing, materials strength, and creep behavior.
  • Experience with sheet metal structures, machining, welding, gaskets, sealing, pipes, and flanges.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor & Vault.
  • Familiarity with FEM modelling.

  • Strong analytical and design skills with a practical, hands-on mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a collaborative environment.
  • High attention to detail, quality-driven, and proactive in problem-solving.
